3 Reasons To Consider Therapy After Breast Cancer Treatment

by Ross Martin

As a woman, there are a lot of things that you have to be concerned about when it comes to your health, but breast cancer could easily be considered one of your biggest concerns. According to BreastCancer.org, one out of every eight women will develop invasive breast cancer at some point in their life, which is about 12 percent. If you are one of the many unlucky women who goes through breast cancer diagnosis, treatment, and recovery, you can be facing many psychological changes from such a life-changing event. For this reason, most women who undergo breast cancer treatment do eventually seek some form of therapy. Here is a look at why therapy during or after breast cancer treatment is important.

Beating cancer can bring about a lot of anxiety.

Once you have finished your last rounds of treatment and get the good news from the doctor that all cancer is gone, you can be faced with mixed feelings of both joy and anxiety. You have been through so much that every new symptom or pain that develops  in your body will put you on high alert because of fear that the cancer has returned. Because anxiety can be a huge problem for breast cancer patients after treatment, it can be helpful to talk to a therapist.

Recovering from cancer can be just as much a psychological process as physical.

When you receive your breast cancer diagnosis, it can change everything about how you view your life. You may be forced to leave your career, you may see personal relationships changed or affected, and you may even feel like you become a totally different person. In order to regain your own sense of self after cancer treatment, many women seek some form of therapy.

You may have a hard time adjusting to your new body.

In many cases, breast cancer for a woman will mean losing her breasts and having them reconstructed. Even this can be a reason to seek therapy. Therapy is almost always recommended if you have to have a mastectomy because of the grieving process that can come along with losing such a valuable part of your female physique. Therapy is also a good idea if you opt for breast reconstruction. Even though you have undergone breast reconstruction, you can feel a sense of disconnect with the new way your body looks and this can take some psychological adjustment.

About Me

About Jessica's Cosmetic Surgeries

Hello there! I'm Jessica Goodyear. I am an unofficial expert on cosmetic procedures--mostly because I've had a lot of them done. Some people judge me or think I'm fake, but I feel more like myself than I ever have before! It all started when I was a teenager. I broke my nose playing softball, and I had to have plastic surgery on my nose so that I could breathe properly. But my nose looked different afterwards, and I liked it better! Now I save up my money to get something done every few years. Whether it's teeth whitening or veneers, a little bit of liposuction, or new cheekbones, there's something so satisfying about letting your inner beauty shine out through your outer body. I started this site to help break the stereotypes about cosmetic surgeries and to talk about some of the health risks related to them. Check it out!
