3 Indications You May Have Sleep Apnea

by Ross Martin

For many individuals, sleep apnea is a debilitating medical condition that can cause serious problems in other aspects of their lives. Without adequate sleep, individuals tend to experience headaches, depression, and loss of memory. If the condition is left undiagnosed and untreated, extreme cases of sleep apnea can result in more serious health problems. The most common indication of sleep apnea is snoring while sleeping, but there are other signs of the condition. Below, you will learn of a few common signs that you should keep an eye out for when it comes to the medical condition of sleep apnea.

Gasping and Snoring During Sleep

The most common and obvious indication that an individual may be suffering from sleep apnea is loud, chronic snoring during sleep. Generally, the snoring will be the loudest when the person is lying flat on their back. While it is possible that the snoring will break intermittently, it will often be followed by sounds of gasping or choking, sa the individual is struggling to catch a breath. In fact, individuals who suffer from this medical condition may experience up to 30 interruptions in their breathing each hour while sleeping. In many cases, a spouse or partner will be able to identify this type of behavior prior to the individual will sleep apnea.

Sleepiness and Fatigue Throughout the Day

More often than not, individuals who have developed sleep apnea and are dealing with the condition have no idea what is wrong with them. If you are frequently sleepy, exhausted, and/or fatigued during the day, it may be a result of sleep apnea. In addition, you may find it difficult to maintain focus or even retain brand-new concepts, which can lead to problems at school or work.

Personality Changes or Mood Swings

If you are constantly feeling moody or irritated during the day, the cause may be sleep apnea. Disturbances during your sleep can result in a lack of oxygen getting to the brain, leading to mental health issues. In addition, depression can often be caused by a lack of quality sleep, contributing to regular mood disorders. If sleep apnea is left undiagnosed and untreated, it can lead to even more serious medical issues than just mental health issues, including diabetes, stroke, and heart disease.

If you believe that you or a loved one may be suffering from sleep apnea, it is important to know that there are treatments available. Contact a sleep apnea doctor to learn more.

About Me

About Jessica's Cosmetic Surgeries

Hello there! I'm Jessica Goodyear. I am an unofficial expert on cosmetic procedures--mostly because I've had a lot of them done. Some people judge me or think I'm fake, but I feel more like myself than I ever have before! It all started when I was a teenager. I broke my nose playing softball, and I had to have plastic surgery on my nose so that I could breathe properly. But my nose looked different afterwards, and I liked it better! Now I save up my money to get something done every few years. Whether it's teeth whitening or veneers, a little bit of liposuction, or new cheekbones, there's something so satisfying about letting your inner beauty shine out through your outer body. I started this site to help break the stereotypes about cosmetic surgeries and to talk about some of the health risks related to them. Check it out!
